What should I do to get evidence off a phone?

Here is a list of what NOT to do.

Reset the phone

Let the battery die

Connect a freeware or downloaded program to “print my text message”

What you show do.

Determine HOW it is to be presented in court.  Know ahead of time if a screen shot is going to be admissible.

Take screen shots of the artifact ( thing you think is important) to preserve in case something happens to the original.

Enable cloud backups to include all things from the phone evidentiary in nature.  (includes Android or Apple)

Select EVERYTHING for a backup and do an old fashion ITUNES backup to a local PC.

Contact a forensics expert at Leverage Investigations that can at the least Acquire a forensic image of the device and then later present what is needed in a focused report.
