Digital Forensics is a scientific study or repeatable process to acquire electronic data from a device’s memory storage or from a cloud storage system. That data is then ingested into a proper forensic software. This software is specific for the type of device that contained the data. There are some that offer a more universal application, but we prefer to use the correct tool for the correct data. You can use a flat head screwdriver to turn a Philips screw in an emergency but that not what it was designed to do.
What the software has compiled all the data, it then allows an analyst to review it and present the data in a viewable and understandable format. Similar to how it was presented on the screen of the device that it was captured from.
