Far cheaper than paying for  a police helicopter.  With quicker deployment, finding people who are lost or don’t want to be found is now efficient and cost effective.  I agree with people on the privacy side, but the gains outweigh the loss of privacy.  Besides, if I am committing a criminal act within my house, in-person video surveillance or drone surveillance is NOT going to see that unless you take your activity out into plain sight of the public.  Which for any surveillance performed by a private investigator or criminal investigator is the same, Free game when you come outside.

Police Drones

Law enforcement agencies have now successfully incorporated drones into routine patrol work.  Good examples are looking for lost or missing person, accident reconstruction and survey, and even with area searches on many investigation cases.  This is an important tool for law enforcement to utilize to serve the community the best way it can utilizing the best technology.
